Argentina Approves Auditor Appointments in Late-Night Vote

In the dead of night, the Chamber of Deputies approved the appointment of three members to the Auditor General of the Nation. The slate, approved with 186 votes in favor (and two abstentions), is composed by Rita Mónica Almada from La Libertad Avanza, Juan Ignacio Forlón from peronism, and former Salta national deputy Pamela Calletti from Innovación Federal. The first two officials appointed took the oath to assume their responsibilities in the oversight body. Blocks such as Provincias Unidas, the PRO, and the Frente de Izquierda denounced that the ruling coalition rushed the vote on the agreement to 'return favors' and stated that the act was illegal because it was not included in the agenda of extraordinary sessions sent by President Javier Milei to Congress. To not validate the procedure, these political forces walked out of their seats, allowing the spaces benefiting from the agreement to vote for themselves in solitude, revealing the 'caste' nature of their conduct. Cristian Ritonda announced that the PRO will appeal to the Justice and explained that the appointment of general auditors 'is not a competence' of the plenary session in extraordinary mode because it had not been included in the Executive's agenda. Myriam Bregman (Frente de Izquierda) accused the ruling coalition of 'being in a hurry to return favors' and considered that 'that is why they start handing out little jobs'. 'I have never seen anything more caste-like than what just happened,' she concluded.
